Henry Purcell was among the earliest masters of English theatrical music. From incidental music for Shakespeare plays, to courtly masque entertainments and fully conceptualized opera, his music illustrates 17th century England as a place of musical experimentation and rapid genre development. In this performance, Tenet presents songs and instrumental suites from Purcell’s court festivities in our offering to Cecelia, the Patron Saint of Music.
